Tomago Aluminium employees came together this week to celebrate NAIDOC Week, taking part in a Bush Medicine and Country Workshop that highlighted the rich culture, knowledge and traditions of Aboriginal peoples.
Led by Elder Justin Ridgeway, Peter Detourbet and Kaiyu Maynard from Murrook Cultural Centre, the workshop gave employees the opportunity to experience a Welcome and Smoking Ceremony before learning about the traditional uses of native plants and bush medicine, described as the “Chemist Warehouse on Country.”
Participants also enjoyed a bush tucker tasting featuring locally sourced native ingredients and sampled refreshing lemon myrtle tea.
The event formed part of Tomago Aluminium’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace through its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy, creating opportunities for employees to build cultural awareness, strengthen understanding and celebrate the world’s oldest continuing culture.
Thanks to Justin Ridgeway, Peter Detourbet and Kaiyu Maynard from Murrook Cultural Centre for generously sharing their knowledge, stories and culture.
