Work Experience Program

Tomago Aluminium’s Work Experience Program gives students the opportunity to explore career pathways and gain valuable, practical experience in an industrial workplace under the supervision of experienced TAC employees.

Placements are subject to our capacity to provide a safe, and appropriately supervised experience. While we aim to accommodate as many students as possible, submitting an application does not guarantee a placement.

All work experience placements are unpaid.

Eligibility

To be eligible, students must:

• Be at least 15 years of age.
• Be enrolled in secondary school or university studies with a formal placement requirement.
• Provide a formal student placement record or work placement agreement.
• Provide evidence of current public liability and workers’ compensation or personal accident insurance.

Placement duration

• Secondary school students: Up to one week or 38 hours.
• University students: Placement duration will be considered in line with course requirements and TAC’s operational capacity.

Placements generally take place over consecutive weekdays, such as Monday to Friday. Requests for longer placements or alternative arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Placement opportunities

TAC currently offers work experience in the following areas:

Mechanical
Gain an introduction to mechanical trades and maintenance within a large industrial environment. Students may observe our tradespeople undertaking equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs and other workshop or site-based activities.

Electrical
Learn more about electrical trades and the systems that help keep a major manufacturing operation running. Students may observe electrical maintenance, testing, fault-finding and other activities undertaken by qualified TAC tradespeople.

All activities will be appropriate to the student’s age, experience and placement requirements, with safety our highest priority.

By submitting this application, the student confirms that they:

• Meet the eligibility criteria for TAC’s Work Experience Program.
• Are at least 15 years of age.
• Are enrolled in secondary school or university studies with a formal placement requirement.
• Can provide the required placement agreement and evidence of insurance.
• Consent to TAC liaising with their educational institution to assess and facilitate the placement, including sharing relevant personal information.
• Understand that all placements are unpaid.
• Have provided parent or guardian details and obtained their consent if they are under 18 years of age.
• Understand that submitting an application does not guarantee a placement.
