Following our $80,000 donation to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service in June, Tomago Aluminium’s Workplace Giving Fund has continued its journey of giving back, making a significant impact on four additional charities that were chosen by our employees.

The remaining $50,000 from the $130,000 raised, was divided between Jenny’s Place, The Hunter Melanoma Foundation, The Starlight Foundation and the Calvary Mater Newcastle Haematology Department.

Jenny’s Place, a lifeline for Hunter women and children facing domestic violence and homelessness, received $14,000. Donna George, Community Relations Coordinator at Jenny’s Place expressed heartfelt gratitude, as the funds will greatly benefit the Newcastle Domestic Violence Resource Centre, which solely relies on public donations.

“We are so grateful to Tomago Aluminium employees for their generosity and support which will greatly benefit our Newcastle Domestic Violence Resource Centre. A special thank you goes out to Joanne Zerafa, the employee who nominated Jenny’s Place as a recipient.”

Michael Tolhurst’s nomination of the Hunter Melanoma Foundation led to another $14,000 contribution. Hunter Melanoma Foundation Executive Officer, Claudia Tolhurst said two in three people will be diagnosed with some sort of melanoma in their lifetime.

“This funding from Tomago Aluminium will help us to educate the community on prevention and early detection which is vital for successful treatment.” Ms Tolhurst said.

The remaining $28,000 was split between two other essential causes: The Starlight Foundation and the Calvary Mater Newcastle Haematology Department.
