Earlier this year we nominated Tomago into the 2018 SafeWork Awards in Category 1 – Excellence in Workplace Health and Safety Culture.

The SafeWork NSW Awards have been running for 15 years and are the premier safety awards in New Safe Wales. We were selected from a number of entries for a site visit.
Tomago Aluminium were one of only a few chosen to go to the next level and Trish Rapley excitedly welcomed two SafeWork Inspectors recently to further view evidence of ways in which we demonstrate and take ownership of our safety culture across the organisation.
The agenda included discussions with Management on our Health and Safety Strategy and Performance including a review of our statistical data which clearly shows a decrease in our recordable injuries and severity rates and an increase in our Hazard and Near Miss reporting.
Neil Lindus Chairman of the TAC Health and Safety Committee led a Safety Walk to the Central workshop where they were able to speak with some of our employees to get a feel for the culture within our worksite.
After viewing the Mates looking after Mates video, “Coming Home” Craig Broadbent was also available to discuss the impacts of being involved in making the video and sharing his experience with his workmates.
The 3 finalists will be announced in September.
Remember we are all winners if we continue to demonstrate our commitment to making sure everyone goes home the same way they came to work!
