Celebrating 40 years of business

Forty years is a long time in business for any company.

It has been a pleasure and privilege to return to Tomago Aluminium as Interim CEO during this special anniversary year for the company.

The safety and wellbeing of employees is a number one priority at TAC. I hope seeing the handprints of our employees’ kids and grandkids around the site – as part of our new ‘Staying Safe for Them’ campaign – reminds us all of another key reason for us to always be focused on safety. This is one of a number of initiatives in the recent months to support a focus on safe operations onsite.

It was great to celebrate our 40th birthday and to meet many employees and their families at our picnic day in September. Last month, Andrew Newman and I had the pleasure of hosting three employees who worked at Tomago 40 years ago. They commented on how much they enjoyed their time establishing the company and congratulated us on how we have continued to improve our operations.

We are progressing well with our plans to adapt to climate change and play our part in Australia’s move to a lower carbon economy. In the short term, we will work with our power supplier, AGL, to incorporate renewables into our current arrangement. To achieve our longer-term aspiration of net-zero operations by 2050 and to begin planning for post-2029 power sources, we have gone out with an expression of interest (EOI) to renewable energy developers and retailers. The response has been very positive, and we are shortlisting a range of potential future power suppliers. This is our most important project – critical for our ongoing business success.

On behalf of the Board and senior management team, I’d like to wish all our employees, contractors, suppliers, and their families, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. For those able to have a break over Christmas, please stay safe.
