Our energy future is renewable

Matt left an impressively large pair of boots to fill and we should all be grateful for his foresight and hard work that was evident from the time he started here in 2013 until finishing-up at the end of May.

He regularly acknowledged that he could not have done the job without the backing of everyone working here, and that Tomago Aluminium owes its success to every single one of its employees.

In my time here – and certainly in the almost-six months I have been in the Acting Plant Manager role, I can only endorse that sentiment and say that my job has been made easier by the amount of support given.

Looking forward, we are working towards meeting our future clean energy targets with a concerted move to renewable energy and to achieve that we have initiated an Expression of Interest (EOI) process.

We had over 300 registrants join our live Industry Briefing session in November, and we are extremely excited about the opportunity of working on new and innovative renewable power generation and energy storage projects to achieve the net zero carbon dioxide emissions we will need going forward.

The smelter’s owners are committed to transitioning the business to a low-carbon future.  Our chairman, David Fallu, believes this is a significant opportunity for us to drive investment in competitive renewable energy sources. The EOI process is a key step towards us reaching that target.

With the Festive Season upon us, let me take this opportunity to wish you and your families only the very best for the Christmas and New Year holiday period and I would particularly like to thank those of you who will be working over the holidays to keep everything running smoothly.

A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.
