The future is bright.

Not only is it bright, it is promising exciting times as we rush headlong towards it and we have to be ready to grab it with both hands.

The world is becoming carbon neutral and that means a major step-change for us, a change that will take us from using fossil fuel-derived energy to run the smelter to using 100 per cent renewable energy and that is something we need to embrace.

To meet our challenges, we will think laterally and use every energy option available to us rather than be fully dependent on one power source.

We have been planning our move away from fossil fuel-sourced electricity to firmed renewables for quite a while and we expect to be in a good position for renewable energy use by the time our existing energy contract expires.

A significantly-reduced carbon footprint or even a non-existent one is both a challenging and exciting prospect as we work towards producing and delivering more aluminium while changing our overall energy requirements and doing it without any risk to employees or equipment.

The first part of our future plan is, as you will read in this edition of TAC NEWS, to substantially increase our expenditure in 2022 to a record high of 50 million dollars for Capital Investment and 20 million dollars for Major Maintenance, by far the largest spends we have seen in Tomago Aluminium’s history and about double our usual budgets.

The total spend will cover, among other things, major work on our high voltage substation, Mobile Fleet investments and upgrades in the Casthouse.

That stands as a great example of what careful long-term planning can achieve and gives us confidence in the future, a future that is extremely bright.

Tomago Aluminium is one of the world’s leading aluminium smelters in many fields and we want it to stay that way.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for what we have achieved this year in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and to sincerely wish everyone a Merry

Christmas and a great new year.

We hope you enjoy this edition of TAC News.

Best regards,
Matt
