Throughout October, Tomago Aluminium partnered with businesses in the Hunter Manufacturing network to promote Mental Health Awareness month with the, ‘Everyone has a story’ campaign.
This initiative was developed by Molycop and Out of the Square to help break down barriers and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. Everyone has their own story and you never really know what people have been through in their personal lives, or what they might have going on.
It’s a well-known fact that not everyone is comfortable sharing their stories, seeking guidance or asking for help. Over 20% of Australians will experience mental illness in any year, however 70% of people who experience a mental illness will not seek professional help.
Through the sharing of stories, we want to give people the confidence and courage to speak out and provide advice and guidance from peers – someone who may have been in their shoes.
Six Tomago Aluminium employees participated and bravely shared their own personal stories in three separate videos. They each described their own mental health battles, how they got through to the other side and offered advice to their peers about seeking help and support.
The three videos were sent to everyone on-site thought October along with a weekly theme and information, goals and challenges.
