Emergency Response

Our emergency response procedures are outlined in the Emergency Preparedness.

Our emergency response procedures ensure that emergency situations are managed to reduce the severity of incidents and impacts on our personnel and neighbouring premises.

Tomago Aluminium’s Emergency Response Plan has been prepared to formalise the system and procedures that employees of Tomago Aluminium Company Pty Limited (Tomago Aluminium) are to follow in the event of any emergency on the Tomago site.

The Plan sets out the command structure to apply in the event of an emergency and summarises the actions to be taken by people with specific emergency responsibilities. It documents systems for directing staff, relevant authorities, emergency response services and the potential impact on our neighbours in the event of an emergency.

In coping with an emergency situation we ensure that key personnel responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Emergency Response Plan are identified and staff are trained. The training covers how to deal with hypothetical emergency situations and is pivotal to our preparedness. Early intervention is key and all staff are expected to participate in emergency response drills. Because of the size and complexity of the Tomago operations, specific evacuation instructions and procedures have been laid down for each area of the plant. Further to this, each specific business is required to have an emergency response plan, which is to be used in conjunction with this plan together with Emergency Preparedness – Pollution Incidence Response Programs for the Tomago site and Wallaroo Landfill site.

These plans have been developed using a risk based approach, which aim to minimise further injury or damage once an incident has occurred. All emergencies have been identified through a risk management process, and in consultation with Tomago Aluminium Risk Registers.
