Today is World Environment Day!
We are making real progress towards creating a more sustainable future at Tomago Aluminium, thanks to the incredible efforts of our Environment Team and Committee who have driven real and measurable change.
Their commitment to reducing waste and promoting resource recovery has seen some great results over the past 12 months:
- 25 tonnes of paper and cardboard recycled
- 184 tonnes of timber reclaimed for recycling and diverted from landfill
- 5,500 tonnes of refectory bricks crushed and reused as road base
- 4,300 tonnes of steel reclaimed and put back into circulation
These achievements don’t just reduce our environmental footprint—they contribute to a circular economy and help build a greener, cleaner Australia.
We Can All Do Better
While we’re making great strides, there’s still work to do—particularly when it comes to single-use plastics. Only one-third of plastic bottles are recycled in Australia. That means millions of bottles end up in landfill or polluting our environment. We know we can all do better.
At Tomago Aluminium, we’re committed to being part of the solution. That’s why we now have a fresh stock of reusable water bottles available for staff, along with TAC-branded reusable coffee cups—perfect for the daily run to the canteen.
Let’s all take simple steps to reduce waste by avoiding single-use plastic bottles and disposable cups. Every small action adds up to a bigger impact.
