The Graduate Development Program for Engineering Graduates consists of a two year structured program with mentoring and coaching by Tomago Aluminium’s senior engineers who will design an individual development plan including rotation through the business units.

The Graduate Development Program for Non-Engineering Graduates is a 12-month intensive program with mentoring and coaching by Tomago Aluminium’s senior management who will design individual development plans including rotation through business units.

All Graduates undergo a three-week intensive orientation of Tomago Aluminium.

Apprentice Intake

Apprenticeships at Tomago Aluminium commence mid January, with apprentices working on site as well as attending a TAFE College during their apprenticeship.

Initially, apprentices spend time in the training workshop where they learn basic and advanced trade skills, followed by rotation through various departments for continuous "hands-on" training. An exchange program with other Hunter organisations is currently in place to further enhance apprentice development.

Pre-employment Testing

As part of Tomago Aluminium’s pre-employment assessment process, all applicants are required to complete a medical examination prior to any offer of employment being made.

Candidates are advised that some parts of the plant and some specific activities require the mandatory use of respiratory protection.

As part of the company’s duty of care to prospective employees, we advise candidates with a pre-existing asthma condition that there is a risk of aggravating this condition through exposure to an aluminium smelter environment.

Drug and Alcohol Policy

Tomago Aluminium has a drug and alcohol policy. As part of this policy current employees may be subject to random as well as cause drug and alcohol testing. All prospective employees will also be required to undergo testing.

Tomago Aluminium also conducts aptitude testing on candidates as part of our selection process.
