EXTERNAL MONITORING
WATERMost water used in the aluminium making process is recycled. A small portion also has impurities removed and is used for irrigation on site. In the time it’s been operating, the smelter has had no impact on the regional Tomago sand beds system, which is critical in the supply of water to the region. The nearby Hunter River and wetland areas have also continued operating without adverse affect. NOISEThe plant is a quiet operation and traffic movement is coordinated to minimise the impact of vehicle noise on residents of the Tomago area. Monitoring of noise on site ensures Tomago Aluminium operates in peace and quiet, respecting its neighbours |

FLORA AND FAUNA
Tomago Aluminium’s extensive monitoring program also takes into account natural flora and fauna as well as other animals and vegetation that live and grow near the plant.
TRAFFIC MOVEMENT
To ensure nearby residents are not disturbed by heavy vehicles entering or leaving the smelter, Tomago Aluminium has a private access road between the Pacific Highway and the smelter, which is used where possible.
NEW AP22 UPGRADE
Tomago Aluminium’s commitment to the environment will continue with the AP22 project, which will see Tomago Aluminium upgrade its technology and increase its output.
This project began on the basis that total fluoride emissions will not increase above previously approved levels.
