Employee Out of Pay Scheme
Since 1986, more than $360,000 has been raised for Hunter charities including, Cameron Park Special School, John Hunter Children's Hospital, Hunter Medical Research Foundation, The Stuart School, The Hunter Melanoma Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Hunter Branch, Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation, Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Life Without Barriers.
In 2004, Tomago employees have selected the Starlight Foundation and the Royal Blind Society as their Out of Pay Scheme recipients.
How does it Work?
Employees of Tomago Aluminium can choose to donate $1 from their pay each week, which Tomago Aluminium matches dollar for dollar.
Each year, six local charities are short listed for support, based on employee referrals and general community contribution. Employees of Tomago Aluminium then vote for their preferred two charities, with the two charities with the most votes receiving the funds.
How our Support is Making a Difference
"We are overwhelmed by the donation Tomago Aluminium has made and we can't thank them enough for their generosity. The money Tomago has given us will be put towards a new pool hoist for our indoor pool, replacing the old manual system we currently use. The new hoist will allow the children to access the pool more regularly and spend more time in the water - one of the greatest reliefs from the pain they feel."

(Caring for children with muscular dystrophy).
“Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) is grateful to employees and management of Tomago Aluminium for their support of local asthma research. Through their payroll deduction scheme, Tomago Aluminium is directly funding a $20,000 research project to explore new approaches for the treatment of asthma. Thank you Tomago for your ongoing generosity and support of HMRI, Australia's only comprehensive, regionally based, medical research institute.”

“The partnership between The Hunter Valley Research Foundation (HVRF) and Tomago Aluminium dates back to 1981 when Tomago, as a new manufacturer in the Hunter, first sponsored the research activities of the Foundation.
Tomago is one of over 150 HVRF Sponsors and Patrons. As a collective these Sponsors support a program of economic, social and environmental research which places both the HVRF and the Region in a unique position within Australia. This research program provides an understanding about the various forces shaping the economic and social structure of the Region which then allows business and community leaders to make informed decisions about future directions for the community.
Tomago Aluminium is a significant employer (employing 1,000 people) and contributor to the local economy. Metals manufacturing plays an important part the development of the Region’s and Australia’s wealth with the Hunter contributing approximately one-third of Australia’s total aluminium output. Tomago Aluminium itself generates around $800 million per year in export revenue and is a catalyst for development of the Port of Newcastle."
