Tomago Supports White Ribbon Day
Tomago once again supported White Ribbon Day on the 23rd November and asked everyone to stand up against violence towards women. The Health & Safety Committee were at the front gates welcoming everyone as they arrived and asking people to make a pledge. The pledge simple said, ‘I will stand up, speak out and act to prevent men’s violence against women.’
The committee were also selling white ribbons and raised $428 along with the $300 donation to purchase the ribbons. There was a really positive response from employees with Sprockets also on hand to provide everyone with their morning coffee and Cookie providing some savoury French Toast.
Unfortunately, 1 in 3 women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence perpetrated by someone known to them.
White Ribbon Australia is part of a global movement of men and boys working to end men’s violence against women. They aim to create an Australian society where all women can live in safety, free from violence and abuse.
It is a not-for-profit organisation that works through a primary prevention approach in schools, workplaces and communities across Australia. Through their programs and campaigns, they engage with men to be part of the social change needed to prevent men’s violence against women.
If we all stand together, we can all be a part of this social change and ensure that women can live and work in a society free from violence and abuse.
